words about bed and breakfast in Rome:
If the bed
and breakfast is a common type of accommodation and it
is internationally recognized as a very good alternative
to hotels for a long time, this is a rather new thing
for Rome, and generally for Italy.
The first bed and
breakfasts in Rome opened in 1998, when the City Hall,
concerned about the big amount of pilgrims coming for
the year 2000 Jubilee, asked to the Roman families to
open their houses to international guests.
Since then (just in 7 years) thousands of bed and
breakfasts have opened for business. Some of them are
really small family managed accommodation, with just one
room for guests, some other are nowadays small hotels.
Even if all B&Bs were checked and authorised by Rome APT
(Rome Tourist Board), to make a choice among them is
a rather hard thing to do.
